History of Puluong

Pu Luong is a mountainous region in northwestern Thanh Hoa, where has long been home to Thai and Muong ethnic communities, who settled here centuries ago and shaped the land through traditional farming and forest-based livelihoods. Preserved rice terraces, stilt houses, and ancient pathways reflect a way of life deeply connected to nature, making Pu Luong a rare place where culture and landscape remain in harmony.

Traditional Dance is how the Black Thai community celebrates togetherness. As night falls, the rhythmic clacking of bamboo poles and graceful movements create a spirited atmosphere of joy. The experience is best shared over a jar of Ruou Can (rice wine), dissolving the barrier between host and guest in a warm, natural bond.

Wet rice cultivation

Unlike many highland regions limited to a single harvest, Pu Luong is blessed with abundant water, allowing for two distinct rice crops annually (late May and October). Beyond providing sustenance, these terraced fields preserve a way of life deeply rooted in wet rice civilization from the sacred New Rice Festival to the ingenious engineering of the bamboo water wheels.
